Llama Shearing
Apr 26, 2010 at 9:04 PM Sunday was the Llama shearing at the Folsom Zoo & Sanctuary and it was so much fun! I was convinced J and I would be the only people there that weren't under the age of 7 or with someone under the age of 7, but as we waited in line we overheard the adult couple in front of us ask a question about the shearing. Later on they met up with their grandson who was about 7, but at least it made me feel better for a minute or two.
There ended up being quite a lot of people, which I'm sure made the two Llamas even more anxious, and it took a little while for them to be rounded up and one of them coaxed into the "squeeze cage." The look on the female's face made me want to walk over and tell her that nothing bad would happen, they were just going to steal a bit of fur. Her ears were flattened back and eyes wide with concern, but after a while she got used to the hum of the razor and the hubbub around her.
I touched a handful of the fur (well, actually got pretty cozy with it if you look at the pics) and it was indeed very soft. Much softer than any real mustache I've ever touched…
